It’s summer vacation season in Canada. In the next few days people will pack up the campers and head out for a long weekend or spend a few days at a lakeside cottage. They’ve worked hard and they deserve time with family. But are they still focused at work until the end of their shifts? Is your team at risk because “Tom” is excited and thinking about his to-do-list: get the camper from storage, drain the antifreeze, fill the water tank …

If you’re a supervisor, remind your crew of the importance of staying on task. They already know it’s important, but add it as part of your toolbox meetings. Be specific and address the vacation excitement that employees feel when they are on their last day of the shift before vacation. Ask crew members to help each other stay focused. After all, if they get hurt that may postpone vacation or eliminate it altogether.

Start a conversation with colleagues or team members. What are your tips to stay focused? Share here if you wish so others can benefit. And enjoy your vacation this summer. Travel safe.
